Here at Dun and Bradstreet Credibility Corp., we’re passionate about education, and that’s why we’re always proud to tell people about our participation in the EdAhead savings program, allowing us to make a positive impact in the educational communities in which we live.
This year, we’ve had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of elementary, middle, and high school students who strive for programs geared toward science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). By pledging funds that we’ve accumulated through the EdAhead program, school districts across the country have been able to design programs that promote STEM education to help their students become better prepared for future careers in each prospective field.
Below are some highlights about some of the things we’ve been working on with local school districts nationwide:
Bethlehem Area School District – Project Lead the Way (Pennsylvania)
Project Lead the Way is a four year sequence of courses designed for high school students interested in exploring post-secondary education in STEM-related fields. Two unique curriculums give students the chance to delve into the Engineering and Biomedical Sciences realm to help prepare them for future classes and careers down the road. We are pleased to be pledging $30,000.00 to help make this program successful. The funds will be used to supply the program with vital technology, machinery, lab equipment and training that includes:
- 3-D printers and modeling software
- VEX robotics kits
Millburn School District – Intermediate Robotics Course (New Jersey)
Spurred through growing interest in the after-school STEM club, the Millburn School District is creating an intermediate robotics course to help meet the needs of students seeking a more challenging experience. This course will be able to afford students the opportunity to gain a more enriching academic understanding of the robotics field as well as position students to be proficient enough to successfully compete in various competitions and events. The program will encourage students to pursue careers in various STEM-related fields. In order to help make this happen, we’re happy to be pledging $15,000.00 to assist with:
- The creation of a specialized curriculum
- Proper instruction, education, supplies, and site license to allow for Millburn School District students to get the most out of the experience.
Tuscon Unified School District – Summer STEM Program and Initiatives (Arizona)
The TUSD has a few different programs in the works. The first program is an early childhood initiative that aims to create a summer STEM program with two options for rising first graders. Both options will be highly interactive with an emphasis on STEM education at an early age. We are awarding $5,000.00 to help provide:
- Resources necessary to sustain a summer program
- Curriculum design and implementation
The second program seeks to integrate STEM-based projects into two middle schools within the community. We are awarding another $5,000.00 to make available:
- Robotics Kits
- Hydropower Kits
These kits will be used to facilitate engaging projects in programming, electrical wiring, and mechanical design in the classroom.
Enrichment Fund for the Guilford County Schools, Inc. – Scholarship Program (North Carolina)
The EFGCS is implementing a new scholarship program (Future Thinkers, Doers, and Innovators Fund) to help support young men and women in grades 6 through 12 participating in national conferences related to academic and career interests; national performing arts competitions; and academic challenge competitions. Additionally, the scholarship will help provide students the opportunity to participate in educational field trips and science fairs to help promote their educational goals. As we build our relationship with the Guilford County community, our gift of $10,000.00 will help spur further prosperity for the fund and the students it serves. We’re honored to have been asked to serve on their Board, as well as participate in their annual funding review, too.
When these donations are combined with our recently announced 180K cash pledge to the Santa Monica-Malibu School District, we’re investing $245,000.00 in our local school districts to help strengthen the educational goals, desires, and futures of students to help prepare them for a promising career. By focusing on the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, students will gain the knowledge necessary to be a viable competitor in the fast-growing world of technology and innovation.
With programs like EdAhead, we’re able to make a difference in the surrounding communities, invest in our future leaders, and provide opportunities for innovative programs that our schools–and students–so desperately need. We look forward to continuing our push for educational prosperity through donations and gifts to local school districts who exemplify the meaning of student success and creativity.
