Joking aside, all of us here at Dun & Bradstreet Credibility have a lot to be thankful for this year. Our team has grown in 2012 from sea to shining sea, and much like a Thanksgiving feast, every ingredient plays an essential role:
4 cups of fresh ideas from Malibu
1 lb. of raw energy from Tucson
3 cups of hard work from Bethlehem
2 cans of tight-knit camaraderie from Tempe
and a pinch of love from Short Hills
December’s upcoming presence alone is good enough reason to make a list and check it twice. In the midst of everyone’s travel-planning, gift wrapping, turkey stuffing, and decking the halls, it’s easy for businesses to lose track of the things they are the most thankful for come the holiday season.
We here at Dun & Bradstreet Credibility believe that small businesses should take every reason to celebrate (failures and accomplishments); we believe that wish lists really do come true; and we want to sing from a Santa Monica mountaintop about all the things we are thankful for this year. After all, making lists keeps us productive! Here is a list of just five of the top things we are thankful for in 2012:
This past April, President Obama and Congress passed the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act in support of entrepreneurship and small business growth. We did a little dance, we got down that night, and we revved up our engines to connect with our customer base and spread the word like wildfire.
By design, the JOBS Act is right up our startup alley. By easing federal regulations, it is essentially opening the doors for individuals to become investors in small businesses and entrepreneurial dreams like never before. Celebrating our 2-Year Anniversary
We came away from Inc. Magazine’s GROWCO conference this past March inspired and energized. If there was one thing we learned about high-profile growth, it was the importance of networking, trading ideas, and telling one another our stories. (I suppose that’s three things. More bang for your reading time.)
On August 1st we celebrated our second year together as a company. There is nothing that spells out loyalty like being surrounded by a room full of people (twice as full as the year before) that you are proud to call your friends and colleagues. We are thankful to be able to celebrate our failures, our growth, and push forward as a team. Simple and true.

A Little Help From Our Friends
It’s one thing to say you’re dedicated to helping small business. It’s another thing to be there to repair, rebuild, and help people get back on their feet in a time of devastation. Hurricane Sandy demolished homes and livelihoods across an entire region.
You can board up windows, you can stock up on inventory, but there is truly nothing a small business can do to prepare for something so destructive. There was also nothing more impressive than the lending hands that came in the calm after the storm.
Dedication to the small businesses that suffered damage and loss during this time was truly displayed from sea to shining sea.

Tony catches our particular attention at 1:13 when he says, “If we get the culture right, then most of the other stuff will just be a natural byproduct of that.”
We can’t say it enough: The best way to shape culture is to focus on hiring the people who will ultimately make up that culture. Yet, somehow in a slew of businesses this is overlooked, replaced with corporate values, slogans, and mission statements.
Our very own CEO (…Chief Enthusiasm Officer?), Jeff Stibel says, “I personally interview every candidate at our corporate headquarters. By the time a prospective employee’s resume reaches my desk, the department heads are convinced that the candidate can do the job. But for each person we end up hiring, I still end up interviewing countless other highly qualified candidates who were vying for the job. I’m mainly looking for cultural fit, and there is no more important job for a CEO”.
We are extremely thankful here at Dun & Bradstreet Credibility for the coworkers and culture that we’ve been building and living in for the last two years. At the end of the day, you spend as much time with your colleagues and make as many important decisions as you do with your own family. We’re proud of the community we have within the company, and thankful there are other businesses out there constantly improving and insisting on the importance of corporate culture.
